Exploring the Russian composers
FOR their next performance the Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra invites you to join them for a special evening of Russian orchestral favourites.
The programme will include Rachmaninov’s stunning Piano Concerto no.2. that was featured in Brief Encounter and which will be performed by piano soloist Mariela Cingo.
Mariela is a locally based musician who has been highly commended for her performances not only as a soloist but also as a chamber musician in the UK and abroad, and it was with the Hillingdon Philharmonic that she first performed this concerto many years ago.
The concert programme will also include Khachaturian’s beautiful Adagio from Spartacus, instantly recognisable to many as that famous theme from the TV drama The Onedin Line.
Mussorgsky’s dramatic Night on the Bare Mountain, a piece you may well remember from Disney’s Fantasia will additionally be performed along with Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty Ballet Suite.
Lastly, Apprentice fans will not be disappointed as the Orchestra will perform Prokofiev’s Dance of the Knights, also known as the Montagues and Capulets from his Romeo and Juliet ballet and that ominous theme tune from The Apprentice!
The Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra is now well established in the local area with over 60 registered members, having performed an incredibly wide and varied repertoire of works over the years.
In addition to countless concerts at local venues throughout Hillingdon, the group has also performed at some of London’s most prestigious venues including the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Southwark Cathedral.
Music From Russia, With Love will be led by Lucy Cumming and conducted by the founder of the orchestra, Peter J. Williams.
