Up for fun with a joyful musical

-

SIXTEEN today, in love for the first time – the world is changing for young Joe Casey.

But, on this fateful night, he doesn’t realise just how much.... On the night of his sixteenth birthday, he takes Sarah, the girl of his dreams, out on their first date. In an effort to impress her with bravado, he breaks into a building site overlooking his home on Casey Street, which is owned by Mister Pressman, a highend property developer.

The police turn up, at whichpoint Joe’s life splits into two: the Good Joe, who stays to help, and Bad Joe, who flees...

With a stunning script by Tim Firth (Calendar Girls) and featuring a jam-packed catalogue of Madness hits, including Baggy Trousers, Wings of a Dove, My Girl, Driving In My Car, It Must Be Love and the title song, it would be utter madness to miss it!

BYT Chairman, Damian Sandys says: “This is a joyous, uplifiting show, full of laughs, full of heart and full of opportunities for our young folk.

“It’s about young people and the choices they make in life, which is perfect for our members – but it’s also packed with nostalgia for those that partied to these wonderful songs back in the 80s.”

This is BYT’s first annual production since the pandemic halted their production of Barnum, just weeks before opening night.

Sandys explains: “After months of rehearsing, Covid-19 brought a sharp halt to BYT’s production of Barnum. As time went on, those principals moved to university and the show had to be shelved. This is our first time back in the theatre properly and I’m so thrilled that our members get to experience this once again. Throughout the last two years, I have been moved and inspired by their resilience and camaraderie throughout our work online and in person. The world around us may be ever changing, but at the heart of BYT, the key principals are still just as they always have been: teamwork, friendship, commitment and an unwavering support of anyone is part of the BYT family.”

Sixteen year old Dylan Thurley plays Joe Casey and says: “Our House is a musical with a lot of laughs, tears here and there, and it will be as hilarious to watch as it’s been for us to rehearse.”

Katie Hall, 17, plays leading lady Sarah, and says:“I can’t wait for opening night, especially for those in the cast who have received their first major roles this year. They’ve all worked incredibly hard and it’s going to be a great show. BYT is definitely a family and it’s the secret behind our amazing performances.”

Director, Matthew Dye, comments “After two years away, these brilliant young performers are itching to tread the boards after two years away. They have thrown themselves into this with the greatest of gusto and it’s such a pleasure to be back home at the Beck. Back at Our House so to speak.”

Our House will be staged on April 8 and 9. For tickets contact the Beck Theatre Box Office on 020 8561 8371 or visit www.becktheatre.org.uk.
