Hundreds of places created with £14m school expansion

-

A SCHOOL in West London has created hundreds of new places after a £14 million expansion.

Nanaksar Primary School, in Hillingdon, has just completed a huge refurbishment, which will provide places for 840 pupils.

From the start of the academic year in September, the school, rated “Good” by Ofsted, will admit 120 pupils per year group, split into four classes.

The year groups will be split into ‘zones’ throughout the new building, with the youngest years on the ground floor.

Among some of the school’s new features are an orchard and greenhouse, which the school says will be used to teach children about plants and horticulture.

As well as learning about plants, the children will be encouraged to grow fruit and vegetables to learn about healthy food choices.

The new school building, designed by architect CPMG Architects and built by developers Bowmer and Kirkland, has modern teaching facilities with breakout spaces for the children located close to the classrooms.

The primary school is part of the Guru Nanak Multi-Academy Trust and seeks to ensure that all pupils are aware of the Sikh ethos on which the school’s principles are founded.

Aftab Ahmed, head of business operations and chief operating officer at the school, said: “We are so pleased with the new facilities provided by the team.

“This work has marked a major investment for the community in Hillingdon for current and future generations.

“The new school facilities create a safe, welcoming and friendly environment that meets the needs of our current and future pupils across all communities.

“The facilities not only deliver a great teaching space but allows the teachers to deliver the high quality of education using various resources incorporated within the building.

“The work will make sure everyone thrives in this environment, and that our students get the very best start to their education possible.”

Director at CPMG Architects, Hugh Avison, said: “Overall, we’re genuinely pleased to have played an important part in providing the best start to schooling life that all pupils deserve, and to have helped increase the number of high-quality education places for the local community.”
