TWENTY FIRE ENGINES WERE AT SCENE

- By ELIZABETH HAIGH

A LARGE fire in Ealing was tackled in the early hours of Wednesday May 4 by around 125 firefighters with 20 fire engines at the scene.

The fire was at an industrial bakery in a factory in Park Royal.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 3.23am to reports of a fire at a factory on Minerva Road in Park Royal. Most of the building, which is single-storey, was alight.

One person left the building safely before crews arrived on the scene.

Fire crews then used a 32-foot ladder as well as an aerial drone to provide an overhead view of the fire.

The blaze produced some smoke in the area and local residents were being advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

Commuters were also warned to avoid the area on Wednesday morning to avoid disruption to morning traffic.

Station Commander Paul Morgan, who was at the scene, said on Wednesday: “Firefighters were faced with a fully-developed fire on arrival.

“One person left the building before the Brigade arrived. Crews are working incredibly hard to contain the fire to the single-storey building and prevent further damage.

“The blaze is continuing to produce some smoke and we’re asking residents in the local area to keep their windows and doors closed. There is a cordon in place as a precaution and Minerva Road is closed.

“There could be some disruption to traffic during the morning rush hour, so please avoid the area.”

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
