-

THE man charged with the murder of the 21-year-old woman who was repeatedly stabbed in a west London alleyway last week has appeared in court.

Dennis Akpomedaye, 29, is accused of ambushing his ex-girlfriend and trying to cut off her head.

Ania Jedrkowiak was found in an alleyway off Church Gardens, in South Ealing, shortly after midnight on May 17. Emergency services rushed to the scene but the Polish university student was soon pronounced dead.

It is claimed Akpomedaye ambushed Ania and stabbed her multiple times with a large kitchen knife, including an apparent attempt to decapitate her.

He was detained by police as he waited at Victoria station for a coach to return to his home in Newport, South Wales.

He was charged with Ania’s murder last Wednesday, May 18.

The victim was said to have met Akpomedaye through an online dating app after moving to the UK to study in around 2020.

The relationship was said to have ended after she began studying at the University of West London and

got a job working part-time in a restaurant.

On Monday May 23, Akpomedaye appeared at the Old Bailey via video-link from Wandsworth prison.

He had a bandage on his arm and spoke only to confirm his identity before resting his head in his arms.

Judge Mark Dennis set a plea and case management hearing for August 8 and a provisional trial from May 15 next year.

Akpomedaye was further remanded into custody.
