From mythological sites to romantic vistas, the designer Racil Chalhoub shares her favourite places on the Greek island
Racil Chalhoub’s guide to Mykonos
Three words that describe Mykonos
‘Vibrant, magical and happy.’
Where to stay
‘I love the Belvedere Hotel. It’s walking distance to Mykonos Town, which is very convenient in the evenings when it’s hard to
find a taxi.’ (www.belvederehotel.com)
Favourite restaurants
‘La Maison de Katrin is a family-run spot in town that serves delicious Greek cuisine – try the chocolate cake – and go to Spilia for the freshest octopus on the island. (www.catrins -mykonos.com). I adore the flavoursome food at Scorpios – there are different parties and DJs every day – so arrive for a late lunch and stay on into the evening…’

Favourite view
‘Watching the sunset from the terrace at Caprice Bar feels like a sacred celebration. Everyone just sits overlooking the famous Mykonos windmills, and waits for the
sun to dip into the water.’
Beauty essentials
‘Clé de Peau Radiant Multi Repair Oil for face and body; conditioner by Davines; suncreams by Institut Esthederm; and tinted lip balm,
which I use on my cheeks as well.’
Best tip for adventure
‘Take a day trip to the island of Delos, which is believed to be the birthplace of Apollo and
Artemis. Legend says that it reflects its powerful energy onto Mykonos (which seems
to be why visitors don’t need much sleep).’
Top insider secret
‘Head to Fokos – it’s a bit of a drive but once you get there, you can disconnect completely. The beach is still untouched and the taverna
serves wonderful mezze.’
What do you pack?
‘I take a selection of Racil slip dresses, which I can wear from the beach to a party; a large pashmina as it often gets windy at night; a stack of denim shorts; crop tops from Reformation; bikinis by
Lisa Marie Fernandez, Solid & Striped or Eres; pyjamas from Sleepy Jones. I also pack shell necklaces and a box full of large earrings by Rebecca de Ravenel; Aquazzura x Racil sandals; several pairs of YSL or Celine sunglasses and a beach bag by
Muzungu Sisters.’
