A dazzling night of classics
FOR their next performance the Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra invites you to a special evening of Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and Elgar’s music.
The concert will include Tchaikovsky’s dazzling Violin Concerto, for which the Orchestra are delighted to be joined by soloist Alexandra Lomeiko.
An acclaimed violinist and recipient of numerous prizes, Alexandra has performed extensively across the globe as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. Most recently, she was awarded one of the prestigious Philip and Dorothy Green Young Artists Awards from the Making Music Foundation.
Aimed at kickstarting the careers of outstanding young musicians, these awards have helped to launch many classical stars over the years including cellist Steven Isserlis and guitarist Craig Ogden.
The award has also kindly supported Alexandra’s performance at this concert with the Orchestra.
Prior to the Violin Concerto, the concert will open with Mendelssohn’s popular Hebrides Overture, also known as ‘Fingal’s Cave.’
The Orchestra will additionally perform Elgar’s Symphony No.2 in Eb major.
The composers last completed work, the Symphony has been said to reveal his outstanding talent for working with the orchestral colour palette.
Currently proceeding through its 33rd season the Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra is now well established in the local area with over 60 registered members, having performed an incredibly wide and varied repertoire of works over the years.
In addition to countless concerts at local venues throughout Hillingdon, the group has also performed at some of London’s most prestigious venues including the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Southwark Cathedral. In July 2011 the group celebrated 25 years of music making at the Cadogan Hall in Sloane Square.
The Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and Elgar concert will be led by Lucy Cumming and conducted by the founder of the Orchestra, Peter J. Williams. For further details see: www.hillingdonphil. btck.co.uk
