DRUG DEALER JAILED AFTER BITING OFFICER’S FINGER
MAN GIVEN SEVEN-YEAR SENTENCE FOR OFFENCES
A DRUG dealer caught with crack cocaine and heroin in a Hounslow park bit a police officer in a bid to escape.
Police officers on patrol in Hounslow town centre on June 1 approached Martin Okumu shortly after entering Kingsley Avenue Park.
The 31-year-old ran off and the three officers gave chase and attempted to detain him.
Okumu resisted and struggled with officers before biting one of their fingers. PAVA incapacitate spray was used to detain him.
He originally stated his name was ‘Michael’ but a mobile fingerprint device revealed his true identity and showed that he was wanted for robbery, breach of bail and failing to appear at court for common assault and being in possession of a corrosive fluid with intent.
Okumu, of no fixed abode, was searched and found in possession of crack cocaine and heroin. He was arrested for drugs supply and assault with the intent to resist arrest.
He pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to supply crack cocaine, possession with the intent to supply heroin and assault with the intent to resist arrest at Harrow Crown Court.
On September 9 he was jailed for seven years and two months.
Inspector Dan Thompson, who led the investigation, said: “This is an exceptional result for an exceptional team effort.
“This shows beyond any doubt that those concerned in the supply of drugs are also involved in other violent criminal acts.
“Drug-related violence is a Met priority and one which is taken extremely seriously on the west area.
“Okumu’s sentence demonstrates how seriously the courts take these matters and I hope that the work of the drugs focus desk reassures the public that we also take these matters seriously.”
