Turning the spotlight on the UK leaders in secure cash management.

There is a vital part of the nation’s infrastructure that hides in plain sight. Whether behind the wheel of an armoured vehicle or the securely closed doors of a cash centre, the dedicated teams at G4S Cash Solutions provide a smooth, smart, professional service to businesses, banks and their customers. We count on them every day – or, rather, they do the counting too.

G4S is the world’s leading integrated security solutions company and part of Allied Universal, a global business operating in over 85 countries. In the UK and Ireland, they have more than 27,000 employees supporting local communities and customers. Their leadership in secure cash management is just one facet of a portfolio spanning security, facilities management, fire safety, health, employment, and care and justice services.

G4S businesses in the UK have also committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions. Having led the way with roofmounted photovoltaic modules and telematics systems to improve fuel consumption, the Cash Solutions fleet going forward will be utilising the latest emissions compliant vehicles and electric vehicles.

So, what does Cash Solutions do? With more and more ways to pay for goods and services nowadays, it goes beyond collecting and delivering to banks and businesses – or even processing banknotes, coin and cheques. Now it means providing merchants with seamless payment solutions to cover cash, card, phone and online purchases. It even includes secure transportation and storage of everything from artworks to pharmaceuticals.

And who are the people behind all this? Who has ensured that your local ATM is fully stocked – or that your shop has the right amount of cash in the till? Meet Monique. As a Warehouse Operative (Vaults), she literally makes the money go round.

“My main responsibility is the security and traceability of cash containers entering, moving inside, and leaving the vault department,” she explains. “Understandably, it’s a highly regulated environment where we have to follow precise guidelines and maintain the highest standards of efficiency.”

For Abdul, one of the specialist cash transportation Drivers, the appeal is in being part of a well-trained, close-knit team that provides a service to the community. “It’s not just another delivery job. You’re expected to be professional and courteous at all times, when you’re driving, with customers or with members of the public. It’s really rewarding. And it’s a proper career – I’m in it for the long term.”

What marks Abdul and Monique out as G4S Cash Solutions people? Each needs particular skills and an appropriate level of numeracy to carry out their role, but more than that, it’s a distinctive mixture of attitude and personal values. Both exude a quiet confidence that comes from performing a highly responsible and important role with integrity, within an organisation that recognises and develops talent – and believes in promoting from within.
