Bees starlet Stevens eyeing senior call-up

-

Finley Stevens has targeted a senior Wales call-up after making his Brentford breakthrough.

Stevens made his Premier League debut in January and the Wales Under-21 international now hopes to make the step up into Robert Page’s senior squad.

“That’s the goal, to push on to the first team,” Stevens, 18, said.

“Everyone’s got to do their bit, work their way up, and hopefully I get a chance sooner rather than later.

“If I keep doing well for my club then hopefully the opportunities will arise.”

Full-back Stevens joined Brentford after being released by Arsenal and playing for Worthing in the Isthmian League, the seventh tier of English football.

Stevens has been part of several matchday squads during the Bees’ bid to stay in the top-flight this season, and finally got on the pitch at Southampton in January.

“When I got the call it was quite surreal, I didn’t realise until after the game I’d just played in the Premier League,” Stevens said.

“But once you get a taste you want more.

“Hopefully I can get a few minutes before the end of the season and go again next year.

“There’s a good morale around the club and we’ve just picked up six points in the last three games.

“I think if we get one more win and a few draws we’ll be home and dry.”
