LAST ADVENTURE INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY
Disney+, streaming from Friday, December 15
INDY’S back! Indiana Jones’s fifth outing is the first not to feature Steven Spielberg at the helm with James Mangold picking up directorial duties 15 years after the poorly received Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. In what surely must be Harrison Ford’s last hurrah as the archaeologist-adventurer, Indiana Jones is seeking out an ancient Greek artefact that has the power to let you travel through time. With Phoebe WallerBridge on board for the ride, it’s a lot of fun with plenty of action, car chases, nasty Nazis and withering asides.
APOCALYPSE NOW LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND Netflix, streaming now
THERE’S a starry cast for this apocalyptic thriller that has caused controversy with its surprise ending. A family’s holiday at a luxury rental home on Long Island takes a dark turn when a cyber attack shuts them off from the outside world and two strangers arrive telling them that something ominous is happening. With no way to find out what’s really happening, their mental health begins to suffer and tensions start to rise between the families. Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali and Myha’la star in this taut film where things aren’t necessarily what they seem.
DARK PAST
SOMETHING UNDONE ITVX, streaming from Thursday,
December 14
SOMETHING creepy this way comes in this 10-part series about true crime podcasters who get more than they bargained for when they investigate a cold case. A Canadian couple Jo (Madison Walsh) and Farid (Michael Musi) are investigating the massacre of a family in Newfoundland in the 1980s with presenter Farid travelling to the small town where it happened while foley artist Jo is getting her deceased mother’s home ready for sale. As both delve deeper into what they’re doing, they uncover disturbing secrets that could tear them apart. Gripping, atmospheric stuff.
JACK’S BACK REACHER Prime Video, streaming from Friday, December 15
IN Alan Ritchson, the makers of Reacher have found their perfect leading man. A huge, muscular presence with the brains to match the brawn, he’s spot on as Lee Child’s vigilante and far more convincing that Tom Cruise could ever be in the film versions of the Jack Reacher stories. In this eight-part second series, Reacher finds out that members of his former military unit are being hunted down and killed, one by one. Once again, he joins forces with Karla Dixon (Serinda Swan) and David O’Donnell (Shaun Sipos) to track down those responsible using maximum force alongside formidable investigative skills.
