Aim­ing for 10,000 steps a day? Great, but make it quick – health ex­perts now say pace is as im­por­tant as dis­tance when it comes to health. Pub­lic Health Eng­land (PHE) and the Royal Col­lege of Gen­eral Prac­ti­tion­ers rec­om­mend up­ping the in­ten­sity of your walk­ing rather than just fo­cus­ing on num­ber of steps. Re­search shows 10 min­utes of brisk walk­ing a day (that gets your heart rate up) can re­duce risk of early death by up to 15 per cent.
