She’s only been divorced from Gavin Rossdale for four months, but Gwen Stefani is already planning a massive celebrity wedding to her new boyfriend, country singer Blake Shelton.
heat can reveal that Gwen’s hired posh wedding planner Jerri Woolworth (planner of events for the Country Music Awards and the NFL), and given her a budget of $10m to create her dream big day – including A-list entertainment, a cake flown in from London and a lavish two-day party.
“Gwen is planning to have an over-the-top country wedding, but she wants it to be classy, too,” says our insider, who’s known the No Doubt singer for years. “They want an Oklahoma wedding [Blake owns a ranch there], and it’ll be in an industrial-size barn especially renovated for the wedding. Blake’s letting Gwen plan everything.”
The friend adds that the wedding will take place over two days next spring. “Gwen wants 120 guests, Blake’s list is more like 200. I’ve heard they’re going to build some of the accommodation for guests onsite, luxury camping-style, and there is going to be a huge bonfire and hay rides after the ceremony,” says the insider. “They’ll have a barbecue cooked by Blake’s favourite chef, and Gwen’s favourite Italian food and sushi will be flown in from California, along with a cake from the UK. Gwen wants Kate and Wills’ royal cake maker [Fiona Cairns].”
We’re told top country singer Blake’s big-name friends will provide the entertainment, with our insider saying, “Dixie Chicks, Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town – it’s going to be something else. Gwen would also like to sing a surprise song that she is writing just for Blake.” Considering her last album, This Is What The Truth Feels Like, was about falling in love with him, we’re surprised she’s got anything left to say.
Gwen and Blake met as judges on The Voice US in 2014, but didn’t get together until last August, after Gwen split from husband of 14 years Gavin following rumours he’d cheated on her with their nanny. Blake split from his second wife, country star Miranda Lambert, in early 2015.
Gwen’s secret wedding plans are a big contrast to the “fantastically down-to-earth and ordinary” London wedding she had to Gavin back in 2002, where Gavin’s dog Winston acted as the ringbearer.
The couple have three sons – Kingston, ten, Zuma, seven, and Apollo, two – who we’re told are “helping” with planning their mum’s second wedding. “They want a hot dog stand,” says our insider. “They’ve also been promised a big slide at the party the day after the wedding.”
But what about the dress? When she married Gavin, Gwen’s John Galliano dress was dip-dyed pink, and our insider says this frock will be equally as colourful. “There was talk of blue and white. Whichever designer she wears, it’ll be memorable,” they say.
So, cake, entertainment, venue, dress… anything else? Oh yeah: an actual engagement.
“They’re not officially engaged yet – that will happen in October when both of their tours wrap up,” says our source. “Blake’s really gone all out on the ring – it’s a 10-carat Asscher cut diamond, surrounded by six rubies made by a jeweller Blake knows in Tennessee, who specialises in retro settings. I’ve heard it’s worth around $1.6m. Gwen’s so happy with Blake – their relationship is totally positive, and it gives her nothing but self-confidence and joy. She is madly, deeply in love and the feeling is mutual.”
