AMBER IS NO LONGER A DEPP
The actress divorces Johnny and gives her settlement to charity
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s divorce was all set to be the most bitter in Hollywood history, with accusations of domestic abuse, cheating and claims that both were attempting to ruin the other’s reputation. But last week, just 48 hours before the pair were due to face off in court, the case was settled.
In an awkwardly worded joint statement, Amber and Johnny –who split in May after 15 months of marriage – said, “Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future.”
Reports claim that Amber – who withdrew her request for a restraining order – walked away with $7m from Johnny, a tiny sum compared to the $150m he paid partner of 14 years Vanessa Paradis in 2012. Amber then announced the following day that the entire amount would be donated to domestic abuse and children’s charities. “Neither of them are happy with the outcome, but they’re both relieved they can get on with their lives,” says an insider, who confirms the settlement included a clause that neither party was allowed to leak video or audio clips taken during their relationship.
Days before the settlement a video of Johnny drinking and ranting appeared online, followed by a US website publishing photos of Johnny’s bloody hand, claiming that he’d cut the tip of his finger off during a row with Amber where he accused her of cheating with Billy Bob Thornton – claims both Amber and Billy deny.
“Johnny had to stop this going further because his image and reputation really couldn’t take another hit,” says the insider. “Amber’s side fought hard and got him to agree to not allow his famous friends to be biased towards her – he’s worked with almost everyone in Holly wood, so she’s really worried she could be blacklisted.”
Amber’s agreed to never speak about Johnny again – and the insider says that once she’s wrapped the upcoming Justice League movie, currently filming in London, she’ll take a break. “A mber needs some time to recover,” says the friend. “This has been the hardest thing she’s ever had to go through. She’s lost so much weight, she’s got no energy and she’s not sleeping. She’s glad it’s all over, but now she needs a break.” n ISSY SAMPSON
