The night Taylor tried (and failed) to make up with Katy
The duelling stars finally end up in the same room – and heat saw it all…
Their feud is almost as famous as their music and, for the first time in three-and-a-half years, last week Taylor Swift and Katy Perry came face to face. And what happened next was like a scene from Mean Girls.
The singers’ meeting wasn’t at a big awards ceremony filled with staff designed to keep them apart, but at Drake’s 30th birthday party, with wall-towall A-listers and less than 100 other guests. The intimate event could have been the perfect opportunity to end their war, but heat was there and we can reveal that the only thing last Sunday night did was stoke the fires between the two megastars.
“Taylor was doing everything to catch Katy’s eye, but nothing worked,” says our party insider, who was at the bash at Delilah’s in West Holly wood. “She even followed Katy to the bathroom at one point and waited outside for her. But when Katy came out, she just sailed past and gave her a totally blank stare. Poor Taylor looked so disappointed. She clearly wanted to have a big talk. It’s no secret she needs all the friends she can get right now after her public spat with Kanye West.”
Taylor, 26, and Katy, 32, famously fell out in 2014, after Taylor talked about a singer who’d done something “horrible” – now believed to be a fight with Katy over backing dancers – and released Bad Blood, seemingly about the feud. But many have speculated it also had a lot to do with the man they both dated (along with most of Hollywood), John Mayer. And guess what? He was at Drake’s party, too. And the singer made it crystal clear whose side he was on.
“John was glued to Katy all night. He was clearly trying to monopolise her,” says our insider. “She didn’t seem to mind at all, though.”
The drama didn’t end there, either: snubbed and keen not to leave the party without making a mark, Taylor made an
unexpected move… on Drake.
“She was very touchy feely with him,” we’re told. “Taylor was touching his head and leaning on him by the DJ booth. She knew Katy could see what was going on between her and Drake. There weren’t that many people at the party and Taylor was being super-obvious about it.”
Our insider says that if Taylor thinks she can put an end to this feud, she’s wrong. That same week, Katy put up several Instagram posts about being back in the studio. We’ve told you before that Katy’s considering a duet with Taylor’s ex Calvin Harris, but there are now rumours she’s also recording with Nicki Minaj, who had her own Twitter spat with Tay in 2015. Then, last Tuesday, Katy spent her birthday partying at a Kanye West concert, Snapchatting his song Famous – specifically the line, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex” which, of course, caused a huge fight between the rapper and Taylor.
Despite her best efforts with Drake last weekend, Taylor left the party alone, six hours later. Our insider adds, “Taylor may have bitten off more than she can chew. Plus, she’s coming across as a bit sad and desperate.”
