What’s the weirdest holiday souvenir you’ve brought back?
I’ve brought back instruments like a rainmaker made of bamboo, and a drum. Although the drum went off to the charity shop recently, so maybe not my best purchase.
Coolest hotel you’ve stayed at?
When Steps were touring with Britney Spears in America, we stayed at The Paramount in New York. It was gorgeous, and I came home with a lovely set of crockery – loads of cups and saucers. I tend to go for nice, traditional hotels, rather than anything too “cool”.
Biggest holiday fail?
My first “girls’ holiday”, when I was 17, in Tenerife – there was meant to be loads of us going, but it ended up just me and another girl, and we didn’t take enough money. We lived on Mcdonald’s all day, and would rely on walking up The Strip in Playa De Las Americas for the free shots they offer to get you into the bars. By the time we came home, we weren’t talking to each other.
Strangest thing you’ve eaten in another country?
When Steps went to Japan, we went to a restaurant where they cooked all the food in front of you. They cooked the prawn shells – not the meat – and they made them all crispy. It was a delicacy, apparently. I’d had a bit too much sake, so I was adventurous enough to try it.
Three things you always pack?
It would be easier to tell you three things I don’t pack – I pretty much take everything, just in case. I always take my own hairdryer, because you never know with hotel ones. I always take loads of books. Holidays are the only time I get to actually read anything.
Fave travelling companion?
I quite like travelling by myself. It’s nice to have some quiet time and plug in my headphones and watch an episode or two of The Good Wife. Steps’ single Neon Blue is out now. See them on tour later this year – go to Ticketmaster.co.uk
