Katie Price swears it’s over for her and Kieran after saying she caught him cheating – but is everything really as it seems?

It seems a day can’t go by without some kind of drama in Katie Price’s life. But last week she managed to outdo herself when she announced she was divorcing third husband Kieran Hayler, because he’d been having a year-long affair with the family’s nanny, Nikki Brown. Well, it had been three years since his last cheating scandal with Katie’s best friend Jane Pountney (not to mention sleeping with her other friend Chrissy Thomas), so the self-confessed sex addict had given staying faithful a good shot. But as more and more seedy and conflicting details emerged, it left a lot of people wondering – heat included – what the truth was. Firstly, the nanny herself has denied it, then Katie’s second husband Alex Reid said he could “smell a rat”, claiming she was fabricating the story to garner publicity for her upcoming live tour, while many online commenters thought it was a “fake” split. So, what’s really going on?
THE NANNY AFFAIR
Katie, 39, sensationally claimed she had been paying nanny Nikki “to f**k my husband for 12 months” and was heartbroken yet again by Kieran’s betrayal. “I was gutted. They had sex everywhere except in our bedroom, they even did it in the kids’ bathroom,” she said. But Nikki – who Kieran apparently said smelled of “BO and fags” – hit back. “It’s all a little story that comes from her head,” she said. “I’m going to clear my name. I’m not going to be just somebody else that she’s disposed of and thought, ‘Do you know what? I’m going to use her.’ She’s vile.”
While Katie is insisting that Kieran and Nikki did have an affair, friends say it may not be as dramatic as she’s making out. “It feels like she’s sensationalised it,” an insider tells heat. “They didn’t have a year-long affair, but Katie’s obviously emotional, and she also knows that the worse this sounds, the more sympathy she’ll get. She’s definitely upset, but she’s no fool. Katie will milk this to the bitter end. She’s forbidden Kieran from saying anything, and she has got form in exaggerating things that have happened to her in the past.”
But Alex Reid wasn’t having any of it. “It’s extremely convenient timing,” he said. “There’s no coincidence here. This whole situation is a great money-making opportunity.” And commenters were quick to question it all, with one writing, “This doesn’t add up, all sounds fake
and made up by Katie to get yet more sympathy,” while another simply said, “This is all bollocks.”
ANOTHER DIVORCE?
Katie initially claimed she was divorcing Kieran, but was letting him stay in the house for the sake of their children – Jett, four, and three-year-old Bunny – as well as her other kids Harvey, 15, Junior, 12, and Princess, ten. But hours later, Kieran, 30, posted a picture of Katie lying on his lap and said he was watching the boxing with “wifey”. He was also pictured out with the kids, and we’re told that Katie is happy to have him there because he does so much at home.
“Kieran is too useful to Katie to let him go,” explains the friend. “He’s a round-the-clock babysitter, he looks after all the animals and does everything around the house. To be honest, although she’s upset, in some ways it’s worked out well. She is the victim, but she can show her mature side by putting the needs of the kids first.”
The source continues, “Katie made an agreement with Kieran that he would say nothing and let her do all the talking, but he messed up by posting on social media, which is why Katie is angry now.” And when she appeared on Loose Women last week, Katie seemed far from sure that the marriage was really over. Appearing quite calm, she said, “I love him… There’s no future for us at the moment, he needs to go get help.
TIMING IS MONEY
The Pricey certainly knows how to play the media, and the timing of her announcement has raised eyebrows. She had been dropping hints for months that all was not well in their marriage, and in recent weeks had been going out without her wedding ring and saying things on Loose Women such as, “Once a cheater, always a cheater.” In her tell-all interview about the affair – published on 26 August – Katie claims she had discovered “intimate text messages” two weeks previously, leading to Kieran’s confession. However, on 21 August the couple had been posting loved-up pictures while on a family holiday together.
It’s all seemingly very mysterious – why wait till last week to tell the world? Well, her latest Q&A tour started last week, but ticket sales weren’t good, and she’s working on a new autobiography. Katie was also paid a reported six-figure sum for selling her story to a national newspaper, and filming of the second series of her reality show, Katie Price: My Crazy Life starts soon – she needs the publicity and drama. “Katie knows a happy life doesn’t always make interesting reading, and she has made a massive financial gain from this, which she says is one consolation,” our source says. “She knows that timing is everything and more people will want to come and see her on tour if she’s got more heartache and controversy to talk about, rather than rehashing the same old stuff about Kieran and Jane. She loves bringing out books to give her side of the story, but before this new affair, there wasn’t much for her to talk about. Now she’s found a gold mine. It certainly goes some way to making up for the breakdown of her marriage.”
WHAT NOW?
If Katie does go through with her third divorce, then she’ll be making sure everything will be done on her terms. “She won’t want Kieran to get a penny,” our source says. “It’s seems like it’s just another Pricey roller-coaster ride, where amazingly she’ll come out smelling of roses. She’ll keep Kieran close, as she needs him to look after the kids and all their animals. She hates being on her own, so she won’t want him to go until she has another husband lined up. She’s wanted out of the marriage for a while, but was worried Kieran was starting to get sympathy because of the way she speaks to him on her reality show. Now, it seems clear she’s the victim again.”
