Is boozy Mel B OUT OF CONTROL?
Friends fear the former Spice Girl is ‘going off the deep end’
She’s been through hell the past few months after ending her ten-year marriage to Stephen Belafonte in April. And as Mel B deals with the fallout from her divorce battle, you can hardly blame her for wanting to let off some steam.
But we’re told friends of the former Spice Girl are becoming increasingly worried about the star, as her partying has kicked up a notch in recent weeks. Now, following a boozy appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards and claims that she has been seeing a married LA policeman, those close to the 42 year old are concerned for her wellbeing.
“We’re worried Mel may overdoing the boozing and partying a bit,” a source close to the star tells heat. “She’s lost weight, and she often goes out all night and then has trouble staying awake in the daytime, while she’s at work filming.”
Last week, Mel made a show-stopping entrance at the VMAS, wearing a gold sequinned dress emblazoned with the slogan, “YOU WILL NEVER OWN ME” – an apparent dig at her estranged husband, who she has accused of physical and mental abuse during their time together. But her defiant attitude took a wobble later in the evening, as she hit the after-party at Tao nightclub in West Hollywood.
“Mel was chain-smoking cigarettes and knocking back the vodka and Champagne. She was making out with some guy who was a dead ringer for Stephen,” our source tells us. “It seems like the stress is making her self destruct.”
Mel’s behaviour follows an on-air meltdown in which she threw water at her America’s Got Talent co-star Simon Cowell, after he made a crude joke about her marriage. She’s also reported to have been involved with Beverly Hills cop, Ryan Lawrence, who’s only been married for 11 months. Our insider continues, “Mel is pretty into him, but it’s a very complicated situation, and one she doesn’t need.”
But while the star continues to worry friends with her unhinged behaviour, help is on its way in the form of Mel’s mum, Andrea Brown, who’s moving to LA. Last week, Andrea revealed on Twitter that her visa had finally been approved, after having run into trouble with the American Embassy for overstaying on a previous visit.
Now, with the relocation apparently going ahead, insiders hope that with her mum there to support her, Mel will finally get some much-needed stability in her life.
