Fellow X Factor star Eoghan Quigg stands up for the Strictly contestant
She’s gone from strength to strength on Strictly with her jaw-dropping routines, but Alexandra Burke has not been winning over fans. The former X Factor winner has been criticised for her supposed “crocodile tears” over the last few weeks, with viewers’ tweets including, “Alexandra Burke crying #fake ,” and, “Alexandra fake crying & OTT face impressions are getting BORING!” Bit harsh. If you’re a longtime fan of the singer, you’ll know her seemingly over-the-top reactions are nothing new. Speaking to heat exclusively, Alex’s fellow 2008 X Factor finalist Eoghan Quigg says he’s just as surprised by the flak she’s been getting. “I honestly don’t know what the craic is,” Eoghan tells us. “Alex is a really thoughtful person. We always really got on. She was always on the ball. She gave 110 per cent. Of course, she’s going to be nervous. She’s on primetime TV!”
Eoghan, now 25 and a radio presenter, has been tuning in every week just like the rest of the nation, and was delighted to see not just Alex, but also Aston Merrygold on the show. JLS came second in the same year, while Eoghan finished in third. “I saw the two of them from my year on The X Factor and thought, ‘Where’s my bloody phone call?’” he tells us. Next year, maybe?
Criticism aside, it’s clear that Alex has the potential to go all the way in the contest, and Eoghan tells us, “If it’s down to raw natural talent, then she wins hands down for me.” He adds, “What you see is what you get with Alex. I hope people realise that she’s a really nice, down-toearth girl.”
