The Love Island winner on his mad year
Did you realise how big Love Island would be?
No way. I remember on the first day, we were talking, being like, “Do you reckon it will be as big as last year?” And then, three weeks later, everyone starts walking in with bombshells, saying, “Yous don’t realise how big this is.”
Were you surprised at how obsessed people were with your and Chris’ bromance?
I was, because I think we didn’t realise how much people were invested in it. While we were in there, we knew it was special, though. One day we made up a game about lip balm – we were playing for four hours. We would entertain each other like that, and we just clicked as two best buddies.
What was the highlight of filming Straight Outta Love Island?
The whole thing. It was so mad having our own TV show, but I think when we went to LA – being out there was just crazy. It was overwhelming, but so much fun as well. Being able to do it as a duo made it so much better.
And then you got a record deal…
When we started hearing Little Bit Leave It on the radio and in clubs, it was just a bit crazy. For me, some of the things we’ve done have been a dream, but I don’t think of myself as being this star. I still have all the same friends.
What do you want for Christmas?
I really need boxers. I genuinely don’t have any. In the villa, everyone used to laugh at me because of my boxers, I had stripy ones – proper old-fashioned.
Do you have big plans for New Year’s Eve?
Do you know what, I don’t. Last year, I went to a house party, and the year before I went out with friends, but it was just too manic. Everyone’s a bit crazy. I’ll definitely do something – if not with friends then with my family. I won’t be sitting at home. ■
