‘it would be weird if i didn’t talk about Arthur’

The reality star on why she will be addressing her ex on her new show

-

It’s safe to say it’s been a dramatic year for Ferne Mccann. But with an adorable baby, a killer new bod, and now her own reality TV show, First Time Mum, she’s putting her heartbreak behind her. In fact, when heat catches up with the former

TOWIE star, she can’t stop gushing about five-month-old Sunday and tells us she hopes her fly-on-the-wall series will serve as a comfort to other single parents. And as for the turmoil she faced last year after her baby daddy Arthur Collins was jailed for 20 years for an acid attack, Ferne, 27, explains why she’s chosen to confront the drama in front of the cameras. How important was it for you to speak about Arthur on First Time Mum? It was something I felt I had to do because it would have been weird if I didn’t. It was, and still is, such an important part of my life – I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t. The thing is, I’m so open and honest, that’s the way I’ve always conducted myself and that’s the way I’ll continue. I don’t want to sound big-headed, but I think that’s what makes me relatable. There has been a lot of speculation over your “rivalry” with Sam and Billie Faiers and their show, The Mummy Diaries… I don’t think there’s competition because they’re completely different shows. Just because someone might watch their show, it doesn’t mean they won’t watch mine. And what makes mine different is that it’s just me as a single mum. At times, I think I’m winging motherhood, but I hope it will attract those mums and dads that are on their own.

‘At times, I think I’m just winging motherhood’

Billie’s fiancé Greg lashed out at you for tweeting about Charlotte Crosby’s show instead of theirs when they’re on at the same time… Charlotte graciously cleared that one up. She asked me to tweet so, of course, I supported her. I’m so busy, sometimes I don’t remember what day it is, let alone a TV schedule. But she cleared it up, which was really sweet. Me and Billie are all good. Sunday’s a very cute baby, does she have the personality to match? Aw, thank you. I think she’s the cutest baby ever. She’s starting to develop her own personality. She’s very knowing, very inquisitive and alert. She’s a real people person – she’ll give anyone a smile and a cuddle. She’s an angel, I feel really lucky. Did it surprise you how naturally you took to motherhood? It did surprise me, because I wasn’t maternal at all, but I think your mother instinct just kicks in. But, of course, it’s tough at times, especially with juggling work and being so full on. How was your recent holiday to Marbella with Arg? It was definitely different to the old Marbs trips we used to take – in a good way! It was hard work at times, but we had some lovely moments. Uncle Arg is lovely to have around and he adores Sunday, it’s very sweet to see. So, is he your go-to babysitter? Ha, there is no way I’ll be getting Arg to babysit! Maybe when Sunday’s a bit older. I’m not over-protective, but I think most mums would agree you can only really relax when your baby is with your mum or dad. So, my mum’s the babysitter. But Arg will make a great dad. He brings the lols and lifts the spirits. But when you have your own baby, it’s a completely different ball game because you can’t pass the baby back! Ferne Mccann: First Time Mum airs Wednesdays from 2 May at 9pm on ITVBE
