‘this baby will calm tom down’

The cute couple celebrate their upcoming arrival

Last week, Olympic diver Tom Daley and husband Dustin Lance Black took to Instagram to share pictures of their baby shower, where they were snapped posing in novelty “Oh Baby” glasses and “Daddy To Be” sashes.

The bronze medallist and his American husband (known as Lance) revealed on Valentine’s Day that they were having a baby via surrogate, and have since confirmed they are expecting a boy and will be raising him in the UK. Lance, 43, joked, “If I ever wanted to be truly loathed by this nation, I would take Tom away.”

The couple married in 2017, and have spoken about wanting “an army of kids”. An insider told us that Tom, 23, and Lance are in major nesting mode and are hoping this baby will cement their marriage.

“Although Tom has been a bit slow to take to domesticated life, now that the arrival of their son is imminent, he’s stepping up to the plate. They’ve decided that – for the immediate future – Lance will be the primary stay-at-home caregiver, mainly because he can more easily work from home, while Tom’s career calls for a lot of travel and training.”

Lance is a screenwriter, director, film and television producer, and LGBT rights activist (phew), while diver Tom competes in solo, synchronised and team events all over the world.

Lance, who is 20 years older than Tom, is said to be ready for family life, and is hoping the baby will calm down his other half. Our source says, “In some ways, Tom is still a bit immature. He’s got a group of friends his own age who enjoy partying, and while of course Lance wants him to enjoy himself, sometimes it can be an issue.”

The couple met in 2013 when Tom was just 18, and their relationship has encountered some rocky patches along the way, with the pair admitting they broke up for seven months the year before they married.

“The guys take their marriage day by day and don’t hide that they have problems. Having the baby was their way of solidifying their

union. Lance, in particular, is hoping the baby encourages Tom to settle down into family life more.”

But after celebrating the upcoming arrival of their baby with family and friends, it seems the Daley-blacks – who have revealed they don’t know which of them is the biological father – are back on track.

“Since announcing they’re expecting, Tom and Lance have seemed better than ever,” says our insider. “They were all over each other at their surprise baby shower, and Tom cried when he gave an emotional toast to Lance.”
