They might have enjoyed a blissful holiday, but Cheryl and Liam are back and feeling the tension again
Their recent holiday didn’t solve all their problems
Going on holiday is great, isn’t it? You get to lay around all day in the sun, drink cocktails and forget about your problems. But as soon as you’re back home, it’s like you’ve never been away, as Cheryl and Liam Payne are finding out. The couple recently returned from a break in the Maldives with 14-month-old son Bear – described as a “make-orbreak” holiday – after weeks of reported tension between them. And while they had a great time, we’re told they’re not entirely back on track, mainly over Liam’s inability to keep his mouth shut.
“The holiday was good for them, as they got to escape from it all and just be together as a family,” our insider says. “Liam realised how much he was missing by being away so much. He felt bad, and promised that he will try to spend more quality time with his family. But there are still a few issues for them – and still some things they are clashing on. As Liam has said, Cheryl hates that he reveals so much in interviews, and has given him more than a few hints to be careful about what he says. Of course, she would not leave him over it, but it’s certainly something that keeps causing tension.”
Almost as soon as they returned, Liam, 24, was on the road again, to publicise his new single Familiar, giving several interviews about their home life. In one of them, he even referred to Cheryl, 34, as “old Chezza” – something that didn’t

go down well with the star, leading to heated words between the couple. And while they are both keen to save the relationship, there are also other tensions.
“They are so different in some ways, and the age difference does play a part,” we’re told. “Liam wants to dress up and go out – he knows he has to be seen out for his career. He has his party plans for the summer: he wants to be hitting up the most exclusive spots and living it up like a rock star. Liam knows they’re at different stages in their careers, but he has said that he would love her to go out with him. He understands that Cheryl has to be there to look after Bear and prefers low-key nights out with her mates, but he hates that he’s always ‘single’ at these events, and that he’s always just with a manager or a friend.
“When they sit down at home or on holiday, they can have a great time together, laughing and joking. But when it comes to their
expectations of each other in the relationship, it can cause tension and they both get frustrated.”
Our Chiam insider says they both know they have to make compromises and are keen to work on things over the next few months. We’re told, “They both want to try their hardest to make it work. Cheryl seems to be indicating she is willing to try to go out more, but she wants Liam to try to spend more time together as a family.
“It’s just going to come down to how much they are both willing to compromise. It seems they are going to see how it goes over the next six months or so, and then take it from there.
“But whatever happens, Bear will always be their priority.” n
