We all know Taylor Swift cares about reputation, and she’ll protect hers at any cost – even if that means throwing poor old Katy Perry under the metaphorical bus. Last week, the internet went wild over the latest development in the pair’s long-running feud, as Taylor posted a video on Instagram revealing an apology letter from Katy ahead of her world tour. It was supposed to signal an end to their beef, but insiders say Katy is now “furious” with the singer for leaking her private peace offering.
“Katy expected that Taylor would post something about it, but she didn’t expect the actual letter to go on social media and she’s furious about it,” says heat’s insider close to the Fireworks singer, whose letter was only partly visible in the video. Fans could make out the words, “Hey old friend, I’ve being doing some reflecting on our miscommunications and though feelings between us…”, “…would [like] to clear the air...”, and – most clearly – the words “deeply sorry”.
“Taylor’s only posted part of the letter – and without context,” says the source. “It looks like Katy’s taking the blame for everything, and obviously there’s a lot more to it than that. But Katy knows it was just publicity for the start of Taylor’s world tour, especially when she came out performing on a huge snake.”

Mayer in 2012. That same year, Katy “stole” three of Taylor’s dancers from her Red tour, inspiring Taylor to write 2014’s Bad Blood. Taylor, 28, revealed that an unnamed friend had done, “Something so horrible. I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies.’ And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour.” Katy later tweeted, “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing.” Ouch.
And friends say this latest Mean Girls move is going to be hard for Katy to come back from. “She wanted to reach out to Taylor, as she’s been feeling forgiving after her recent meeting with the Pope,” says the insider. “She decided it was time to send an olive branch, but now it has backfired.
“This is so typical of Taylor, and Katy is already regretting it.” n
