Demi in rehab ‘She needs to give up fame’
It’s the only way she can recover properly
After being released from hospital last week following her overdose, Demi Lovato told her Instagram followers that she would continue her treatment in rehab. As well as thanking friends, family and fans for their support, she wrote, “I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side.”
The singer, who turns 26 next week, was treated for a drug overdose at her home before being taken to a hospital in LA. Fans and celebrities across the world reached out to the star, wishing her a speedy recovery. Her ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama was also spotted visiting Demi in the hospital, and now we’re told she’s committed to starting again from scratch. “After everything Demi went through, she’s just grateful to be alive and focused on staying sober,” an insider tells heat. “She knows it’s going to be a long and painful road, but she’s determined to put in the time and work that will make it happen.”
We’re told part of her recovery will be to look at the aspects of her life that led to her overdose. “A huge part of Demi’s recovery is to purge negative influences from her life and only surround herself with people who want the best for her from now on,” the source says. “Her biggest problem has been succumbing to bad advice and giving into temptation when people encouraged her to go partying. She was never good at saying no, but it’s dawned on her that now is the time to change all that.”
Having been in the public eye since she was ten, friends feel her celebrity lifestyle has been a contributing factor to her struggles. “Everyone – including Demi – recognises she needs to take a huge step back from Hollywood and the trappings of fame in general,” we’re told. “She needs to discover herself as a person, and take each day at a time until she’s truly healed.
