Posh is willing to give it all up for David

She’s doing whatever it takes to get them back on track

How many of us, at some point, have wished for Victoria Beckham’s life? The loving family, attentive husband, successful fashion business – not to mention being one of the bestdressed women in the world. But friends say things are not as perfect as they seem in the designer’s life. In fact, it seems she’s preparing to change it up following a difficult 18 months – which means going into “semi-retirement”, so she can focus on her personal life.

“It was a very emotional decision, because her fashion label is her baby, but Vic has decided to take a step back from day-to-day involvement to focus on other things,” says an insider close to the former Spice Girl, who is mum to Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 13, and seven-year-old Harper. “She started the brand ten years ago, and it’s become a global success. She’s proved herself, and now she’s saying it’s the right time to make this change. She hired a new CEO, who will start in September. They will expand the brand into homewares, menswear and children’s wear. This has been a dream for her, so it’s tough to have to give some of it up, but she knows it’s for the best.”

Victoria will celebrate her label’s tenth anniversary next month and will show her collection at London Fashion Week for the first time. But after that, the 44 year old has told friends she plans to spend more time with her family – although that doesn’t mean she’s completely giving up work. “The next project is managing her kids’ careers. This has been a two-year plan in the making and it’s finally ready for lift off. The children each have their own interests – Brooklyn does photography,

Romeo does modelling and is keen on tennis, and Cruz is a singer in the making, and Vic is excited to help them as a ‘momager’,” our source says. “She’s also been in talks to do a TV fashion show in LA, and she wants to start doing more in the art world. She and David have an amazing collection, and she now wants to turn herself into some sort of fashion/art expert. She’s even been getting private tuition. Of course, she also won’t totally remove herself from the clothing label, but this new approach means she’ll have so much more time to herself without work taking over every second of every day.”

Victoria recently opened up about the challenges of raising a family while working in such a demanding profession, saying, “I try really, really hard. I try my hardest to be the best mother. I am trying to be the best wife and the best professional. When I get home, I try to put the phone down and spend time with the children and spend time with David.” And now she’ll have that chance. In fact, following trips to Croatia and LA, the family are currently on holiday in Bali, where they’ve shared a series of intimate shots on Instagram. And friends say VB wants to do more family trips now she’s got a little more time on her hands. “They’re planning to do a big jaunt around the world,” says the insider. “They’ve been wanting to do it for a while. Their recent trips have been so much fun – they’ve all really bonded. Victoria wants to do more of that and she’s hoping David will be able to join them for most of it, too.”

That could be tricky for the former England captain, who is set to spend most of the next year in the US, launching his own football team in Miami. The long-term project has been an ongoing concern for Victoria, who is said to be worried about being apart so much – especially given David’s penchant for partying when he’s away and the scrutiny this gets. In fact, as heat has reported, she’s even considering having another baby as a way to bring the family closer together.

“These last 18 months have tested them, there’s no denying it,” says the insider. “There have been so many reports and headlines about divorce – particularly in recent months – it’s been hard to deal with. They’ve been through a lot in their 19 years of marriage, but honestly, this has felt like the toughest time of all. Victoria knows what their relationship looks like to the outside world. It’s heartbreaking and humiliating to have people laugh at the state of her marriage, and gossiping that it’s all a sham. While she knows that it’s not true, it’s still upsetting and she’s had to stay strong for the kids. But she’s not giving up – she loves David too much.”

VB has been vocal in her support of her husband, recently calling him “incredible.” And sources say she’s determined to make the marriage work. We’re told, “Victoria will fight for her relationship and is willing to do whatever it takes. She hopes that stepping back from her career, and being with David more – whether that’s in America or the UK – in the coming year will heal the rift. Victoria’s a completely different person when she’s not working – she’s much more fun and way less stressed. By the time their 20th wedding anniversary comes around next July, she says everything will be back on track and happy again.” ■
