Why Jen will never give up on Ben
She’s supporting him through rehab
There will be some who saw pictures of Jennifer Garner driving ex-husband, Ben Affleck to rehab and wonder why she’s still helping him. But insiders say whatever happens, and whatever they go through, the actress is determined to be there for the man she’s publicly called “the love of my life”.
“Although they’ve reached a divorce settlement, Jen has said she’ll stand by Ben and be there for his recovery,” says an insider close to the former couple, who split in 2016 after ten years together. “She knows he’s got a massive problem with addiction and is worried sick about him. After so many years of marriage and three kids together, Jen isn’t going to just walk away. She’s been checking in on Ben at rehab every day, offering words of encouragement, and that won’t stop. As many times as he’s hurt her, she won’t give up on him.”
As heat reported last week, the A-list actor, 46, checked into a rehab in Malibu. It followed weeks of erratic behaviour, which included splitting from his girlfriend Lindsay Shookus, and reportedly hooking up with 22-year-old Playboy model, Shauna Sexton. Jen, 46 –who has children, Violet, Seraphina and Samuel with Ben – abandoned promotional commitments for new film Peppermint to be with Ben, before taking him to an LA facility. “Ben had been drinking for three days straight when Jen staged an intervention,” says the source. “He went to rehab willingly and she stayed with him for a little while. He doesn’t want to live this way. Everyone knew he’d hit rock bottom after the story came out about him looking glassy-eyed and hungover and then forgetting to shut the gates at his mansion. His dogs got loose and the paparazzi had to rescue them off the street.” It’s the actor’s third attempt at rehabilitation. Last year he admitted, “I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront.”
But Jen’s friends say being there for her ex, and reuniting with him romantically are two very different things. “Ben seems to think this rehab stint may bring him and Jen back together,” says heat ’s insider. “He says they have a connection and nobody else would’ve come to his rescue like Jen did. But people are telling Ben not to get his hopes up – they’re set to sign divorce papers after he finishes the program and that’s unlikely to change. Jen will always care for Ben and always be there for him, but that’s it. They will always be in each other’s lives, there’s still a lot of love, but Jen won’t go back there.” n
