‘I tried to go on Tinder, but I got blocked’ Mutya Buena

“We’re all human, you kiss someone in public,” says Love Island ’s Eyal Booker, who we’ll soon see taking a second stab at love. “It’s a natural progression of a relationship, which is why, on Love Island, [having sex] was fine. We weren’t shooting a porno – it was always going to be implied. It’s how we’re all created.”

For his CGD co-stars, doing the show has given them a chance to experience real-life dating – or something similar – in all its awkward glory, when normally their notoriety might get in the way. “I once tried to go on Tinder, but I got blocked!” Mutya tells us. “Someone thought I was a fake, so kept they deleting my profile. And if someone asks me on Insta, ‘So, what do you do?’ and they’ve seen my profile, I’m like, ‘Bitch, let’s not play dumb.’”

For TOWIE ’s Vas Morgan, who’s also appearing this year, online dating can be tricky if you’re a familiar face. “I always start talking to someone on an app and then, after an hour, they’ll be like, ‘Are Chloe Sims and Lauren Pope friends?’ Then, I’m like, block! That’s why I don’t do it any more. It’s so hard to put yourself out there.”

As for the actual dates, Victoria and Becca insist we see the real deal. But timing pressure, coupled with a celeb’s on-screen diva antics [*cough* Gemma Collins *cough*] means it’s tricky to really get that all-engrossing heart-toheart. “Jonathan didn’t have very long to film, so it felt quite rushed,” says Becca, 23, who visited the actor in LA after filming wrapped. “I don’t think I’d date a celeb again – they’re the priority. We’d be getting ready for a date and be sat waiting for three hours before they arrived. My make-up had come off by then!” There’s no denying that romance is a risky game – and we’ve yet to see any long-term love emerge from the show. But we remain ever hopeful – after all, what’s the alternative? Dating normal people in private? Don’t be ridiculous. ■
