Coleen: back in her happy place
There’s no place like Barbados for this beach dweller
She’s turned her world upside down in recent months, uprooting her family and moving to the States to support husband Wayne Rooney in his career, so you can’t blame Coleen Rooney for craving some home comforts. But while, for most of us, that means running back to Mum’s house for Countdown and crumpets, Coleen’s home away from home is slightly more exotic. Last week, the 32 year old packed up her family and headed to her Barbados mansion, her happy place, where she got back to basics.
Coleen, Wayne, and their four sons – Kai, eight, Klay, five, Kit, two and Cass, seven months – left the UK for Washington DC earlier this summer, after the footballer was offered a £300,000-a-week deal to play for DC United. But while Wayne, 33, has been making a big impression on the pitch, already scoring more goals than anyone else on his team and seeing them into the Major League playoffs, Coleen’s been openly struggling with her new normal. She recently revealed, “It’s been a bit of a blur so far, getting everything sorted. I am sure it will all sink in soon.” But as she reunited with her parents Tony and Colette Mcloughlin last week, who had also popped over to the Caribbean island for some R&R, it was clear the WAG was back in her element.
Let’s face it, it’s no surprise the mum of four feels at home on the white sandy beaches – after all, this ain’t her first holiday. As well as regularly returning to Barbados, the sun-loving family are wellaccustomed to a vacay, and Coleen has got the formula sorted: sport a fabulous Melissa Odabash bikini (or two), cheer on her kids as they brave the watersports, and never say no to a chilled glass of Pinot rosé.
W hile there’s no doubt the family were missing Wayne, whose footie commitments held him back in Washington, they certainly do look back to their best. Ah, there’s no place like home. n
