She finally seemed to be dealing with her inner demons. But in the short time Katie Price has spent at rehab, the former glamour model has repeatedly hit the headlines for her destructive behaviour and somewhat lax attitude to her recovery. To recap: during her 28-day treatment at The Priory, she’s been arrested for suspected drink-driving, seen out partying, and skipped her monthlong programme for days at a time – despite readmitting herself as a full-time in-patient. Now, after Katie was pictured filming scenes for her reality show My Crazy Life just outside of the facility, fans are furious, claiming that not only is she making a “mockery” of her treatment, she’s also showing complete disregard for other vulnerable patients on the premises.
Last week, the mum of five turned up with a camera crew outside The Priory’s main entrance, after being “denied access” to film within the grounds. She was soon joined by her mum Amy, 64, who hugged her for the cameras (above). But despite fans initially supporting the star, she’s now facing a backlash for her “shameless” PR stunts. One commented, “She’s making a mockery of those attempting to face their demons, in what they believe is a place of peace, privacy and discretion.” Another railed, “She’s shameless and self-serving – there are people in that building working hard to get healthy, but for her, it’s just a photo op.”
Over the past few months, the 40 year old has repeatedly hit rock bottom. After being filmed rapping, “I love coke,” she checked herself into The Priory for PTSD. While there as a day patient, she was arrested for suspected drink-driving after crashing her car following a night out at on/off boyfriend Kris Boyson’s birthday party – prompting her to check in as an in-patient. But 24 hours later, she left the facility again. At the same time, she’s been plagued by stories that she’s heading for bankruptcy and fears losing custody of her children. At present, her first husband Peter Andre is looking after their children Junior, 13, and Princess, 11, while five-year-old Jett and Bunny, four, are with their dad Kieran Hayler. Her eldest son, Harvey, 16, is mainly living with her mum. There were also reports that she had been hooking up with her ex, Alex Adderson, at a hotel in central London.
As these new images went public, fans questioned whether the star has any real intention of cleaning up her act. As one commenter put it, “Now we know for sure that it was all a publicity stunt. What one person will do for fame and money goes beyond reason.” Let’s hope she gets the help she needs. n
