Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Opinions are divided over which half of this latest dinosaur saga is the better. We preferred the first chunk of the story, which features Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) – the mismatched heroes from Jurassic World – returning to the abandoned Isla Nublar. Here, the remaining dinosaurs are under threat from a volcanic eruption, which is all very spectacular. Things get more intimate and ludicrous when the action moves to a big mansion where nefarious dino-trading is about to occur. It’s decent enough fun, but the muchtrumpeted role for original Jurassic Park star Jeff Goldblum is disappointingly brief. ★★★ Boyd Hilton
