Dynasties
BBC1, Sunday 11 November, 8.30pm
David Attenborough is 92 years old. We only mention this fact, because if we reach that milestone, we imagine we’ll need to be winched out of our sofas covered in crumbs – not energetically exploring the globe and providing extraordinary and vital insight into the natural world. So, thank goodness Sir David isn’t like us then, eh? In his latest five-part documentary, filmed over the course of four years, he explores the lives of some of the world’s most iconic animals, including lions, hunting dogs, chimpanzees, tigers and emperor penguins. Each episode follows one of the animals during a critical period in their lives, starting with penguins, as they show incredible determination to protect their families in the face of challenges to their leadership and from the harsh environment around them.
