Kate & Rio’s family proposal
They’re finally ready to say “I do”
In news that shocked nobody, Kate Wright and Rio Ferdinand announced their engagement last week in the sweetest way possible. After a family holiday to Dubai, the former footballer popped the question on top of a skyscraper, while his three children looked on. Posting the loved-up snaps on Instagram, Rio wrote, “She said yes. How these three kids kept it a secret, I’ll never know,” while Kate gushed, “The perfect end to our holiday… How could the answer not be yes.”
Kate, 27, met Rio, 39, in late 2016, and they soon became serious. She moved in with him last year and became stepmum to his children, Lorenz, 11, Tate, nine, and seven-yearold Tia. Their mum, Rio’s wife Rebecca, died from breast cancer in 2015. Kate gave up her career on TOWIE to focus on Rio and the kids, and she looked after them this summer while Rio was in Russia working as a TV pundit during the World Cup.
Kate has spoken out about their relationship, and said they have always tried to involve the kids in everything that they do. “It is challenging, but it’s just as amazing,” she added. “It was never going to be easy, but I love it and I couldn’t imagine life without the three children.”
Sources told heat earlier this year that Rio was planning a proposal and wanted the children to be involved. Now we await the picture-perfect family wedding – send us an invite, guys.
