Posh is thinking the unthinkable and planning a life beyond Brand Beckham

Her plans for a life beyond Brand Beckham…

-

It’s a situation she never thought she’d find herself in, but as yet more strain is put upon Victoria Beckham’s marriage to David, she’s found herself contemplating what would happen in the worst-case scenario – divorce.

The couple, whose 20th wedding anniversary is next year, have endured their toughest test over the past 18 months, and after claims David has parted ways with their joint manager Simon Fuller – sparking more divorce rumours – we’re told she’s terrified what this could mean for their future. It’s also led to lots of online speculation about the state of the Beckhams’ relationship.

“This all looks quite suss, who else is David planning to get rid of ?” one fan asked, while another said, “Surely a divorce statement is not far off, they can’t go on putting on a united front.” And our source says it has caused tension between the couple. “David sees it as a sensible business decision, and while Victoria understands and accepts that he needs a sports expert, she doesn’t understand why he would have to cut ties with Simon. She’s worried that he could withdraw from all their joint business ventures – and what that would mean for them as a couple and family.”

Simon was the one who introduced the pair back in 1997, when he was the manager of the Spice Girls. He has worked closely with them ever since and was

always seen as the brains behind Brand Beckham. And, while Victoria, 44, is reportedly staying loyal to him, David apparently wanted to distance himself from the direction Simon was taking their brand. However, Simon has a stake in a lot of David’s solo business ventures, including his football team, which was given the go-ahead last week after residents of the Florida city voted in favour of the stadium being built. While it may be hard to separate himself from Simon completely, we’re told David, 43, is determined to rebrand himself as more of a solo star and work away from his wife.

Now, our source says Victoria – who has children Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 13, and sevenyear-old Harper with David – is starting to make contingency plans in case their marriage can’t survive this blow. “The way this year has been, of course she’s thought about that scenario and played it out in her head more than a few times – Victoria is a planner, she always has a strategy and the key to her success is that she will invest the time into contingencies for various options,” we’re told. “Especially now, with Miami being green-lit, she feels that she needs a plan sooner rather than later – she refuses to leave anything to chance. If she and David were to split, first it would be all about the kids, and making sure they felt loved and still part of a big family. Victoria knows this would be the hardest challenge, trying to hold it together for them as the rumour mill goes into overdrive. Obviously, neither of them wants to divorce and they’re keen to save their marriage, but with so much at stake – including their £500m fortune – they need to think about these things.”

The insider adds that if the worst were to happen, they would both want it to be as amicable as possible for the sake of the kids. “Vic would want to co-parent with David, and for the children to know that they would stand together as parents and make all the big decisions together. And, while it would probably be too painful to do things like Christmas together, she thinks it would be important to do the birthdays as a family, as well as any events related to the kids, such as graduating from uni, school prize-giving etc. But this is only a what-if situation and staying with David is her main priority.”

Victoria knows a life without David would be hard and would take a lot of getting used to because they have been together for so long. She once declared she would “die of a broken heart” if David ever left her and, while she’s now stronger, being on her own would be very tough. “Victoria used to panic before at the thought of being without David – she really didn’t think she could cope if they split, but she feels she’s grown stronger these past two years,” we’re told. “She has had to deal with so much – she’s gone from one crisis to the next. Her biggest fear is not being able to handle David being linked to other women should they split – that’s what would destroy her. But she also knows David would never do anything to hurt his children. This is a worst case scenario, but if it were to happen, Vic worries about being on her own and what people would say.”

The source adds. “She’s spent almost 20 years building her dream life with David. They shared the same values and have worked so hard, so she dreads being alone in that sense. But, now she’s helped raise Brooklyn and the kids into people she and David can be proud of, she is quite happy to devote the rest of her life to building their careers and helping them. And that would fill the void left by David if they were to split.” n kate Randall
