Welcome to the Jungle

Find out what’s in store for the new campmates

-

Sorry, Strictly – we’ve got a new TV love in our lives. As the celebs are getting used to their new home and trying to figure out who’ll be their mortal enemy or BFF for the next few weeks, we’re delving deep into the bush for the best behind-thescenes gossip. From Medic Bob’s burgeoning career as a pop star, to the ultimate Bushtucker Trial champ, we’ve shoved our hands into a box of critters and pulled out some cracking facts for you.

1

Although they may have signed their contract to appear on the show months before, the celebrities don’t know who is joining them in the jungle until they meet on camera.

2

If there are bad storms, the camp is evacuated to the Bush Telegraph. This last happened in 2016 – Scarlett Moffatt’s year.

3

All of the show’s crew and presenters have to cover their watches and any clocks, so that the campmates never know what time it is.

4

Campmates get one set of clothes at the start of the show – no replacements. So yes, they have to wash off all that fly gunk and cockroach stink themselves after every trial.

5

They might enjoy seeing themselves on TV, but there is just one mirror in camp for the celebs to fight over.

6

Most of the crocodiles they use are babies. The one big croc they have is Spinner. His tail’s around two-and-a-half feet long and is capable of breaking a human leg.

7There’s a whole bug-making factory dedicated to providing critters for the Bushtucker Trials. On average, there are 250,000 cockroaches, 153,000 crickets, 2.5million meal worms, 400 spiders, 500 rats and 30 snakes bred for each series.

8As well as Brit viewers loving him, Medic Bob is hugely popular in Germany, and his voice has been turned into a song, with lyrics such as, “The cockroaches can bite, but they don’t bite too hard.” Catchy.

9After her 2006 stint on the show, Lauren Booth revealed that, as well as automatic cameras, a human camera crew will set up shop to film the celebs in the shower. They also turn the very real-looking waterfall off between three and six every afternoon.

10As soon as the UK version of

I’m A Celeb is over, the German crew arrive. Ich Bin Ein Star – Holt

Mich Hier Raus started in 2004, and Brigitte Nielson is perhaps the best-known winner.
