‘There’s been a lot of tension between them’
They took centre stage at last week’s People’s Choice Awards, after claiming Reality Show Of The Year. But despite putting on a united front as they accepted the top prize, we’re told there was drama aplenty among the Kardashian ladies, with backstage rivalry and sibling squabbles overshadowing their big night. And not even Kim’s optical-illusion dress could distract us from their icy demeanour – nor the fact that Kris Jenner had copied Michael Jackson’s indoor-shades look especially for the occasion.
“Kris always feels insecure when she’s at events that she can’t fully control, and where she knows there’ll be a lot of scrutiny on her – especially standing beside her daughters, who always look perfect,” an insider close to the family tells heat. “She’s 63, but she still feels pressure to look her best and knows people will gossip about her surgery, so she decided to cover up by wearing sunglasses.
“Kris was exhausted after days working and partying, so her eye bags were quite pronounced – the shades were the perfect disguise.”
Kris’ eyewear aside, we’re told Kim taking centre-stage to accept the prize ruffled a few designer feathers. Oh, and the fact that Khloé won the Favourite Reality TV Star award, while her siblings didn’t even get a nomination.
“There was some bickering, as there’s been a lot of tension between Kim and Kourtney for a long time and they were both interrupting each other,” our insider reveals. “Kim sees herself as being in charge of the family during these group appearances, but Kourt doesn’t take kindly to being bossed around. And Kendall was being her usual snotty self . Kylie had other stuff going on, so she skipped the do to go partying with Jordyn [Woods, her best friend], but she was actually relieved to be missing it. She very much sees herself as her own brand, separate from her sisters, and she likes doing her own thing. As for Khloé – it was her night and she really wanted to stand out.”
And the reality star certainly managed that, stepping out in a show-stopping white gown that pointedly showed off her post-baby bod, and came shortly after the KUWTK episode where Tristan is outed as a cheat. According to our source, Khloé was determined to look, “Empowered, pure and like she
was taking control in a classy way. W hen she saw how she looked in the line up, she was thrilled, especially because the others looked boring by comparison in black – except for Kim, who always tries to steal the show by going for an X-rated look.”
Nevertheless, despite Kim’s dress lulling us into deep hypnosis, we managed to stay alert enough to hear her words of support for the victims of recent tragic events across the USA. Taking the mic, the reality star paid tribute to the people who had lost their lives and homes as a result of California’s wildfires, as well as the mass shooting in Thousand Oaks that claimed 12 lives last week – reminding her sisters, and her audience, to really put their backstage squabbles into perspective.
