‘he somehow thought Jen might stay single forever’
He only left rehab in September after getting help for his drink and drug addictions, but Ben Affleck has checked himself in for treatment once more after struggling to cope with ex-wife Jennifer Garner moving on.
Jennifer, 46, has recently gone public with new boyfriend John Miller, who she’s been dating for around six months. And after introducing him to her and Ben’s kids – Violet, 12, Seraphina, nine, and Sam, six – she is seemingly getting serious with the food group CEO, which has hit Ben hard.
“When Ben and Jen met up with the kids, they kept talking about Mummy’s new friend and how much fun he was. They were saying how he knows how to cook and doesn’t like alcohol, which really got to Ben,” we’re told.
“Although he hasn’t been short of women since splitting with Jen, she avoided dating until she met John. She made a point of never introducing him to her children until her divorce was official. When Ben saw the pics of Jen and John online, he was devastated. He was desperate for a drink to ease the pain, but instead called his sobriety counsellor, who drove him back to rehab.” While Ben is free to come and go, a source tells us he is expected to stay nights at the centre for the next six months, to ensure he stays sober.
After splitting with Jen in 2015 – following a ten-year marriage – Ben, 46, had relationships with 38-year-old TV producer Lindsay Shookus, and Playboy model Shauna Sexton, 22.
Actress Jennifer, however, remained single and even intervened to help her struggling ex back in August, when she took Ben to a rehab facility. The couple officially divorced last month, and she confirmed her new romance shortly after.
Our source says Ben is worried about Jen’s new man having a relationship with his children. “Ben realised that there might be a stepfather in the children’s future and he felt like a total failure,” our insider says. “He somehow thought Jen might remain single forever, and that no man would ever spend any time with his kids. But he knows he needs help and wants to be the best dad possible.”
