Ant who? After his I’m A Celeb presenting stint without his partner, fans reckon Dec could go it alone
Fans heap praise on I’m A Celeb presenter
We tuned into the first episode of I’m A Celebrity… in our millions just over a week ago, and for once, it wasn’t just to laugh at traumatised celebs covered in critters. This year is the first in the show’s history that’s not presented by Ant and Dec. Instead, This Morning’s Holly Willoughby joined Dec Donnelly in the jungle, while Ant Mcpartlin takes time off following drink and drug issues. And, in perhaps a surprising turn of events, many viewers were actually pleased to see Dec able to step into the spotlight for once.
Fans took to Twitter to praise the 42 year old, writing, “Dec is much better without Ant, he really comes into his own. He doesn’t need him.” While some viewers admitted they knew it was an unpopular opinion, there were multiple tweets concluding that Dec was flourishing without his usual sidekick. But some viewers were specifically critical of Ant’s replacement, writing,“i know it’s only her first episode, but there’s no chemistry between Holly and Dec. She has no banter. He’s carrying the show with his wit and humour.”
And one reviewer pointed out, that while Holly and Dec’s dynamic would never be the same as the Geordie mates, this gave Dec an opportunity to shine. “Ant and Dec have a shorthand that only lifelong best friends can have – Holly can’t beat that. But this was a chance for Dec to take the reins for once, like a big brother. And he did.”
Although it may have been a tough evening’s viewing for Ant, he showed support for Dec and Holly by tweeting, “All the very best of luck to the little fella and @hollywills for the show tonight. Lots of love from the big fella!! A”. However, it’s unknown where Ant will have been tuning in from, as he jetted out of the country with girlfriend Annemarie Corbett ahead of the launch. The couple reportedly headed on holiday to enjoy some winter sun, as well as celebrating Ant’s 43rd birthday. We imagine they’re back in the hotel for 9pm GMT every evening, though. n
