‘The industry’s changed – but I’m happy’

The singer shrugs off single flop

‘I want to maintain a happy vibe’

If you were losing sleep as to why Cheryl’s single wasn’t a hit (at time of going to press it was languishing at number 48) , worry no more. Cheryl herself has offered an explanation. Speaking exclusively to heat’s sister station, Hits Radio, before performing at the Hits Radio Live concert in Manchester, an upbeat Cheryl revealed, “The industry is totally different now to when I left four years ago. Streaming wasn’t a thing. We would do a promo, build-up the release, then put it out there. Now you stick it out there first, then promote it.”

Despite her new single not making waves, Chezza insisted she isn’t fussed. “I like [the industry] this way,” she said. “It’s more freedom as an artist, and less pressure – because you can release another song tomorrow.”

It seems her positive attitude stems from taking on her own advice. “I would tell my younger self to just power through, be strong and determined, and you’ll be OK,” she said, adding, “I want to maintain a happy vibe. I am happy… very.”

To prove this, she showed off her, ahem, fun side on Instagram. She posted a video of herself dancing backstage, with a big smile on her face, and posed with Little Mix – who are riding high at No2 in the charts with Woman Like Me – suggesting there’s no bitterness about their current success. n
