Arg: ‘Gemma is the power walking queen’

He’s gearing up for the race of his life…

-

When we chat to James “Arg” Argent, it’s clear he’s not overly thrilled about the potential physical exertion of Race For Life (which he is soon to take part in), but what is evident is his passion for raising money for charity.

TOWIE fans will remember Arg, 31, is no stranger to pounding the pavement in the name of charity. Back in 2012, the star finished the London Marathon in six hours, raising over £3k for Cancer Research. Now – in the first year that Race For Life

has allowed men to join in – Arg is taking things easy…

We’re excited to hear you’ll be running the race For Life… I don’t know about running, but I am taking part in it. tell us why you’ve decided to race… My grandad Seamus died of prostate cancer when I was about 15. He and I were so close. He got me to support the Spurs, he’d always tell me stories about Ireland [where he was from]. I’m obsessed with boxing and we’d always watch Muhammad Ali documentaries together, and he’d tell me about how “Georgie Best” was the greatest footballer that ever lived. I really loved him. When he died of prostate cancer, it had a really bad effect on me and my family. So, when I was asked to do the Race For Life, I couldn’t turn it down. have you been doing any training? Absolutely not! I’ll just turn up like I usually do and wing it.

Were you not inspired by all of Gemma’s dancing on ice training? have you two been out walking together? Gemma is the power walking queen. If there was a TV show based on power walking, she would win it… She can walk really fast, and she does this really cute jog when the hills approach. Yeah, she’s very fit. has she been a huge support for you? She is very supportive. do you think this will kick-start a fitness regime? I hope so. But I’m not too bothered about that. I’ve got my summer bod ready and raring to go! n

Arg is supporting Race For Life in partnership with Tesco. Find an event at Raceforlife.org and make a difference in beating cancer
