Game Of Thrones

Isn’t Game Of Thrones that nerdy show with the dragons? That seems to be what most people who don’t watch the show tend to think about it, at least judging from social media. They also get weirdly annoyed that those of us who do watch it, get so excited about it. Of course, there’s so much more to it than dragons, like the undead zombie army, for example. Although I have to admit last week’s opening episode of this final season was a tad marred by a gratuitous scene of flying dragon action involving Daenerys and her lover Jon Snow, which not only felt like a cheesy and pointless interlude, but also looked surprisingly shoddy in the visual effects department. It was as if the show’s creators spent so much time working out how to gather all the major characters and their

hordes of soldiers for the big premiere opening sequence, that they forgot to give a final check to the flying dragon scene. Having said that, everything else about the return of GOT was magnificent, from the joyously funny opening dialogue between Tyrion and Varys, with one making fun of the other for being a dwarf and a eunuch respectively, to the climactic arrival of Jaime Lannister when he claps eyes on Bran Stark, the dude he threw out of the castle window in the very first episode all those years ago. We even got to see Jerome Flynn, of Robson & Jerome fame, in a foursome with three ladies, although his shenanigans were cruelly interrupted by Queen Cersei’s grizzled advisor Qyburn. It all added up to a spectacularly thrilling beginning of the end. Even with the dodgy dragon action.
