Lizzo hits the beach in a gold bikini – and she’s looking F-I-N-E
She’s sending out those positive vibes
‘i love you. You are beautiful. You can do anything’
Last week, Lizzo showed us exactly why she’s our feminist icon for 2020. In the words of her own song, it ain’t her fault if she’s out here making news.
Frolicking in a rather complicated swimsuit, Lizzo, 31, employed her friends to help her in a sexy photo shoot on a beach in Auckland, New Zealand. She then posted some of the snaps on Instagram, with the caption, “I love you. You are beautiful. You can do anything. (Repeat).” The photos come after the singer found herself at the centre of a “fat-shaming” debate. In an interview, Jillian Michaels – a personal trainer known for her appearances on The Biggest Loser – spoke of her frustration at people “glorifying obesity”. She went on to mention Lizzo specifically, saying, “Why are we celebrating her body?
Why does it matter? Why aren’t we celebrating her music? Cause it isn’t going to be awesome if she gets diabetes. I love her music, but there’s never a moment when I’m like, ‘I’m so glad she’s overweight.’ Why do I even care? Why is it my job to care about her weight?”
Lizzo’s fans took to social media to defend her, and Jillian was forced to clarify her remarks. She said, “I truly regret that [Lizzo] became the example of this argument regarding body positivity and health, and where the two intersect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. It still doesn’t change my opinion on the issue.” n
