THE COLOURED LEATHER TREND

We trial the trend that has been taking over Instagram

-

While we’re waiting for spring and longing for the warmer weather that comes with it, why not switch up your wardrobe? Bring on the coloured faux leather trend, which is all over the high street and Insta right now. Although it may sound daunting, it’s actually very wearable. From khaki to blush tones and all in between, there is something to suit everyone. As always, think about what you want to emphasise – a small waist, long legs, a petite frame or a curvy figure. Don’t feel you have to go all-out – simply nod to the trend with a jacket over your skinnies, or team a skirt with a tee or jumper. However you want to wear it, the heat style team are here to show you how to pull it off.

MAKE IT WORK FOR YOU

● To emphasise or create an hourglass figure, make your waist the focal point – for example, tuck in your top, opt for a higher waist or belt your dress. ● If you’re conscious of your bottom half, go for darker tones here as they are more forgiving. Keep lighter tones up top. ● Want to balance out your figure? Draw the eye away from areas you’d rather not focus on – try streamlined shapes, longer lines and layers or fluted styles.

“I’ve been looking for a faux leather shirt for a while now, but I struggled to find one in petite. Thankfully, Boohoo came to the rescue. I love that the green tone ticks two trends in one. I paired it with jeans, but I’d also wear it open as a jacket or tucked into a skirt.”

RACHAEL MARTIN STYLE WRITER @THEBRETONBIRD

“I tend to steer away from fitted dresses, so this little number from Nasty Gal is ideal for me. I like how it skims over my tummy – an area I’m conscious of. The shorter length balances the voluminous style, while my boots and an oversized coat keep things casual.”

LAURA PUDDY STYLE EDITOR @LAURA_PUDDY

“I’ve gone for one of my style staples – the pencil skirt. The high waist is ideal for showing off my hourglass shape, while the split at the front helps to elongate my legs. Khaki is a great alternative to black, and I’ve stuck to a tonal palette to make the outfit look more expensive.”
