JAMAICAN GETAWAYS

Discover James Bond’s secret hideaway and why this island will steal your heart

-

If, like us, you are beyond excited for the next 007 film and obsessed with all things Bond, a visit to his spiritual home of Jamaica should be on your bucket list. The super-spy returns to this magical island in No Time To Die (released 3 April), where we find him soaking up the Caribbean sun having left active service. Obvs, this would be a very dull plot, so when his mate from the CIA turns up, Bond hops off his sunlounger to save the world – probably. We have scouted out the best spots to channel your inner Bond, visiting some of the locations used for filming, and have discovered why Bond’s creator Ian Fleming was so inspired, he didn’t leave…

Luxury treatment worthy of a special agent is guaranteed at the adult-only five-star hotel Excellence Oyster Bay in Trelawny. With beautiful interiors and super-chilled vibes, it’s built on a palm-fronted peninsula surrounded by crystal-clear water, so it feels like a very private escape. There are lots of places to hang out, including the private beach, five stunning pools, and a swim-up bar. You can even opt to stay in a room with your very own plunge pool or hot tub. There are so many bars, restaurants and coffee shops that are all included, and walking to dinner to hear Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline played on the steel drums was a trip highlight. All rooms are suites, so you’re guaranteed a Bond-worthy bolthole.

If you’re visiting with the kids, the Royalton Negril is both luxurious and family friendly, with a splash park, kids’ club and loads of watersports. If you do need to escape, they have a super-luxe Diamond Club where your very own butler – who seems to magically appear whenever required – will see to your every need. The adult-only Hideaway has its own entrance and check-in, so you don’t even have to see a child if you don’t want to. Everywhere smells delicious, and the gym and spa are good enough to tempt you away from the sunshine for a bit.
