Taylor Swift’s squad is so 2015. Now, it’s all about which royal you can get on speed dial. So, no wonder Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have their pick of A-listers lining up to be BFFS as they embark on their post-palace life.
“Meghan has been overwhelmed by the number of A-list celebs who want a piece her and Harry, so she’s having to be very careful about who they commit to spending time with,” an insider tells heat. “There’s already a long list of people – including actors, filmmakers and TV hosts, who have been reaching out on a daily basis and requesting meetings – and now Meghan is trying to work out who it would be best to prioritise.”
As heat has previously reported, both Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie were hoping to befriend the ex-royals – who are currently residing on Vancouver Island, Canada, with nine-monthold son Archie – but now it seems a whole host of other Hollywood stars want in on the action.
“Ellen Degeneres and Oprah Winfrey both want to do Meghan’s first post-royal life interview. Other potential people who have been in touch include Margot Robbie, the Obamas, and Beyoncé and Jay Z. Jameela Jamil is really keen to get Meghan involved in her ‘I Weigh’ campaign, while [The Daily Show host] Trevor
Noah wants to bag Harry’s first US interview. It’s causing a bit of tension with Meghan’s other celeb friends, like George and Amal Clooney, Serena Williams and [fashion stylist] Jessica Mulroney, who want to make sure they’re not being forgotten about.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have already given the public a slight clue as to the direction they’re hoping to head in with their future careers, after appearing as speakers at an event organised by bank JP Morgan in Miami recently – reportedly for a rather large fee. And we’re told the couple definitely know what they
don’t want to do. We’re told Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner has repeatedly tried to score a meeting with them both, and the insider says, “There has been some unwanted attention, and Meghan has decided to distance themselves from the Kardashians for now.”
So, don’t expect a Kylie Jenner make-up collaboration anytime soon. Instead, it seems the Duchess is hoping her squad will be full of celeb activists. “Meghan wants to be friends with stars who share the same values as her, and make big efforts in their careers to give back and improve the world when it comes to issues like climate change and mental health. She wants to assemble a worthy A-list squad that will help secure her and Harry’s new life in America, and prove that they don’t need the royal family to achieve their goals.” ■
