Why Gemma’s called off her wedding to Arg

We can’t lie, we were really looking forward to seeing what the wedding of James “Arg” Argent and Gemma Collins was going to look like. But it seems we’ll have to wait a little bit longer, as we’re told The GC is postponing plans for their nuptials until Arg is healthy again.
“Gem has put the brakes on the wedding,” an insider tells us. “It’s a huge weight off Arg’s shoulders. Gemma had been pushing ahead with things, even though they weren’t engaged, but he called her and insisted she really listen to where he’s at with his addiction recovery. She’s realised she has no choice but to back off for a bit.”
Arg, 32, reportedly checked into rehab for the third time at the beginning of the year to treat addiction issues after two overdose scares, and his girlfriend is keen to ensure he is back to full health before even considering future plans. We’re told, “It’s heartbreaking for her because she doesn’t want to waste any time. She wants them to get married and start a family ASAP. But she’s also taking his health into account and knows Arg getting better is more important than anything. She really loves him and wants it to work – she really appreciated his recent public declarations of love for her.”
Making a change from previous harsh comments about his girlfriend, Arg posted a touching tribute to The GC on Valentine’s Day, writing, “I’m so lucky to have a one in a million and very special girlfriend like you,” he wrote. “You’ve stuck by me through my best and my worst times. You love me just as much when I’m obese as when I’m skinny. Your loyalty and support means everything. I’m gonna make it up to you and turn things around. I’ll be the best partner I can be. Love you always, Arg.”
And while Arg is believed to still be in the rehab facility in Thailand, he has been planning ahead. The reality star announced on social media that he would be singing at Olivia’s La Cala – a venue in Málaga where Arg has previously performed – on dates from April through to September.
Gemma, 39, has her own plans for the summer, as she recently posted a video of herself in gym gear saying, “I’ve seen Adele this morning, she looks fantastic. I’m doing a boxing class today – trying to get the curves in for summer.” But, while she sounds positive, our source says, “Gem would love to say that the wedding doesn’t matter to her but it does. And if Arg can’t promise he’ll go through with it when he’s better, then she fears they will have to make some big decisions about their future.” ■
