Megan: ‘I’ve never faked an orgasm’

The reality star tells heat why it’s time to be selfish in the bedroom

- CHARLOTTE OLIVER

She’s one of the few reality TV stars who keeps it unapologetically real when it comes to sex, surgery and her former career as a stripper and webcam girl. We love Megan Barton-hanson for being an unstoppable force of nature, highlighting the unfair double-standards still placed on women and encouraging her fellow females to own their sexuality. Now, Megan, 26, is fronting Ann Summers’ Orgasm Gap Manifesto campaign, aiming to help more women become sexually empowered. She spoke to heat last week in celebration of International Women’s Day, and told us she refuses to be fake. Are you surprised that so many women still shy away from talking about sex? Yeah. That’s why I’m so grateful to have my platform, so that

I can help a whole range of women – from older women who have just got divorced asking me how to be confident, to young girls struggling with their sexuality. I’ve had girls messaging me being like, “I’ve never even masturbated before, what do I do?” I think it’s so sad when girls feel they need to lie about how many guys they’ve slept with or fake an orgasm. I’ve never faked an orgasm. How did you get so confident? I went into stripping as a shy girl. On my second day there, all the boys and girls from school came and laughed at me. But it was the best thing I’ve ever done – I became so much more confident and accepting of my body. And then after Love Island, the press tried to shame me for my past, but I was like, “Yeah, it was part of my life, I got confident and earned money from it.” I owned it. Everyone knows I’ve had loads of surgery, but it’s how you feel on the inside. If I don’t feel good in myself – if I’m not eating right or suffering poor mental health – I don’t feel sexy or confident. What advice would you give to Love Island’s fresh crop of reality stars? I just think you can’t be fake. Work with brands only when it’s real and authentic, don’t just do it for the money. People can see through it – they’ll just think, “Here’s another reality star promoting teeth whitening, even though they’ve got veneers and so clearly don’t need teeth whitening.” You can’t please everyone, so just be selfish and please yourself. That’s what I’ve learned. n
