Amanda: ‘It’ll be a treat to have my hair and make-up done again!’

The long-running BGT judge can’t wait to get back to business

‘It’s going to feel like a whole new show’

Good things come to those who wait. That’s what we’re hoping for from the upcoming Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals (which were postponed in May for obvious reasons). And according to Amanda Holden, we’re in for a big treat. Sure, the show’s looking slightly different from normal – the pre-recorded semi-finals will be taking place in a TV studio, with some acts performing via video link, before the live final in October – but there’s still plenty of heart, a ton of laughs, and some good old-fashioned British talent to boot. Speaking to heat, Amanda tells us who she’s rooting for…

Are you excited about getting back to work? Really excited. It’s going to feel weird with the new rules – there will be laughter and tears, too, I’m sure. Also, it’ll be a real treat to have my hair and make-up done by someone else again. Are you looking forward to seeing your Golden Buzzer act again? Oh God, [mum and daughter singing act] Sammy and Honey are just so lovely! I just loved that it was one of those unpolished acts. I know there will be mums and daughters across the country who will connect with them. And they’ll have been together throughout lockdown, which means they’ve had even more time to perfect their performance. Who else are you looking forward to seeing? I’m looking forward to the choirs, because I think that, after the year we’ve had and the community spirit that we adopted, I think a choir would epitomise 2020 in a really nice, positive way. It’s a community of people who sing together and get themselves through various things in their lives. To be honest, I’m looking forward to watching the show afresh again. It’s going to feel like a whole new show.

Next year will mark 15 years of BGT – how does it feel? I’m really excited – hopefully there will be a party. I also turn 50 next year, so I’m expecting a joint birthday. In fact, as a present, I think, I should be able to press all the Golden Buzzers! n
