Alesha: ‘People need a pick-meup right now’

She’s hoping for some serious emotion onstage

-

She gave birth to her second daughter last October and made her debut on America’s Got Talent, so it’s safe to say that Alesha Dixon has been a very busy lady over the past year. But, according to the singer, she’s happy to be back on home soil and in the BGT judging seat. And having been patiently waiting since May, she’s expecting a lot from the semi-finalists. No pressure, then…

Are you happy to be back? I’ve really been looking forward to it. We’ve all been texting, saying how much we missed each other. I feel like people need that little pick-meup and a bit of joy.

The acts won’t have an audience this time – what’s your advice? Well, we’ll be there, being as loud as we possibly can and encouraging them. I guess I would just tell them to visualise the audience at home – there’s still millions of people watching. Think about them. Are you hoping the standard will be even higher as they’ve had more time to rehearse? Good point. I hope they’ve not become complacent and have used this time to really think about what they want to do and think about how to maximise the moment. If they pitch it right, they can tap into the emotion of the nation. We could see some really powerful moments. n
