ROLL WITH IT
If you reckon you were pretty fly at your local roller-disco back in the day, maybe it’s time to lace those rollerboots back up and skate your way to a banging booty. Victoria Beckham is a fan and Beyoncé showed off her skills in the video for Blow.
IS IT REALLY FITNESS THOUGH?
Obie Pearl, founder of alternative fitness company Play Tone, which offers exercise classes with a focus on fun, says, “Skating improves fitness, especially cardio development, muscle strength and lung capacity. One hour on skates burns as many calories as running, while strengthening your leg muscles and connecting tissues. As a result, skating can improve your performance, fitness, and calorie burning rate in other types of sports. The average person burns around 600 calories per hour.”
WHERE CAN I LEARN?
Play Tone run a four-week course in London, where you can learn to skate, costing £120. They also run workout classes on wheels where you’ll perfect dance moves while getting fit for £5 a session. Find out more at Playtone.co.uk.
